17 meters in diameter, around 1000 aluminium mirror segments and 2000 ball screw drives, 240 m2 of mirror surface: the world's largest telescope of its kind can be focused on any point in the firmament in just 20 seconds. Each mirror plate aligns itself to a pre-adjusted laser point - driven by two "Carry" 12 x 2 ball screw drives.
