Eichenberger Gewinde AG - Customized drive solutions for automation
Since 1953, the name Eichenberger Gewinde AG has stood for the highest quality work in the field of thread production. Ball screw drives are among the most frequently used drive systems in many industries. The advantages lie in their high efficiency and energy efficiency. Eichenberger develops customized solutions together with its customers. Its core competence lies in the cold forming of screw drives. Ideal for all those who rely on resilience and smooth running in their applications. Founded over 70 years ago as a family business based in Burg AG, Switzerland, it is now part of the Festo Group, one of the world's leading automation specialists and an independent family business from Germany.
Energy and resource efficiency as well as noise and pollutant reduction: even a simple mechanical drive element has to meet increasingly ambitious requirements in today's world. For Eichenberger, this means minimal use of materials for maximum performance. The screw drives are used in a wide variety of industries, wherever rotary movements are converted into linear movements and vice versa. The customized ball screw drives are used, for example, in medical technology in dialysis machines or in aviation and vehicle construction in aircraft seats, truck couplings, bus and subway doors. They are also used in building services engineering for roofing systems and in the textile industry in embroidery and weaving machines. They also ensure the flawless operation of various devices, such as in bolt setting devices.
> Our areas of application

A thread is created by deforming a workpiece under enormous force between two rotating rolling tools. Thread rolling using the cold rolling process, also known as thread rolling, ensures a long service life and outstandingly smooth running of the thread drives. This is because thread rolling, unlike grinding, milling, whirling or turning, does not cut the longitudinal fibers of the material, but instead deflects and compresses them. The result is a compressed, smoothly rolled, extremely resilient, notch-free surface, which is essential for a long spindle service life.

Eichenberger Gewinde AG as a competent partner
Eichenberger supports its customers in realizing the perfect drive solution - from the initial idea to series production. The company's internal specialists identify optimization potential and find the ideal screw drive for the customer's requirements - or develop an individual solution together with the customer and manufacture it to measure. Development, production and quality management are perfectly interlinked at Eichenberger. This means that even the most unusual solutions can be realized for customers - competitively and with a short time-to-market.
Product highlights
Carry ball screw drive

Carry is an almost wear-free Ball screw drive for applications that need to move heavy loads with low energy consumption. Particularly high travel speeds are possible thanks to thread pitches of up to more than a square. The cold-formed products impress with their robustness, precision, strength, efficiency and smooth running. With a spindle diameter of just 40 mm, Carry can handle 1000 times its own weight. Three strong, corrosion-resistant Carry ballscrews can, for example, handle the docking of a spacecraft to the ISS in orbit. They form the heart of the coupling system. Reliability is the top priority in the aerospace industry. Robustness and resilience in the harsh orbital environment play a key role. In the same way, meticulous accuracy is crucial.

Speedy steep thread spindles

Never before have such high travel speeds been achieved at such low speeds as with the Speedy steep thread spindles from Eichenberger. Extreme pitches of up to six times the diameter also meet the highest demands for efficient conversion of linear movements into rotary movements. Ideal for controlling building technology, for example. The Speedy lead screw is capable of reliably positioning heavy, sensor-controlled shading elements on ultra-modern building façades. Privacy, light and heat protection are automatically and precisely adapted to the weather conditions. The steep lead screws from Eichenberger integrated in the shading system implement a huge screw pitch ratio, with amazingly high travel speeds, which in turn allow very low rotational speeds. This enables the spindle to rotate slowly and efficiently, preventing vibrations. One of the challenges was to achieve precision, concentricity and straightness along the threaded rod.

Round thread spindles Rondo

The Eichenberger Round thread spindles Rondo achieve an above-average level of efficiency with absolutely smooth running thanks to their round thread profile. They are therefore a convincing alternative to conventional trapezoidal thread spindles. The round thread spindles run without vibrations, have a long service life and are also available in aluminum on request. They are used, for example, for pressing coffee powder in fully automatic machines. The right amount of pressure is crucial for the perfect espresso. Two laterally arranged, robust round threaded spindles of the Rondo type guide the plunger for pressing the coffee powder. The puck must be pressed evenly with a force of more than 1200 newtons and, if possible, with a high degree of repeat accuracy - only then will the fourth espresso taste just as good as the first. The precise round thread spindles ensure that the force is applied evenly and constantly over the entire surface of the coffee puck, and that with every single espresso.

Easy threaded spindle Easy

Materials help determine progress, even with screw drives. Easy is a real lightweight. The spindle unit consists of a rolled aluminium spindle with resistant hard anodizing and a nut made of high-performance technopolymer. The lightweight threaded spindles achieve efficiencies of over 80 % and are preferred for use in climatically induced, extreme temperature fluctuations and in harsh environments. Thanks to the special thread geometry, the spindle unit is insensitive to dirt and tilting moments. They are therefore ideally suited for use in door systems in high-speed trains, which are exposed to high forces at over 300h/km and also have to withstand wind and weather as well as repeated opening and closing over many years. The lightweight threaded spindles have to guarantee high force exertion, robustness, precision and reliability in the tightest of spaces. The tilting moment is absorbed by the outer diameter of the spindle, which ensures smooth operation and prevents the doors from jamming.
